Marjie Millum

Marjie was one of the local councillors for the Barnes Ward where she was committed to ensuring effective, open and accessible communication between the community and the Council. She was passionate about protecting and promoting the many communities that make Barnes such a special place to live and work.

A recently retired lawyer, Marjie trained and practised as a solicitor in Scotland, with a career spanning both private and in‑house legal practice. In private practice she worked within the criminal and civil courts specialising in complex family law matters, before moving into senior roles in higher education. She studied law at Masters level and then went on to head up the commercialisation of Research & Enterprise Services at a leading Scottish university.

In Barnes, Marjie has also been a trustee on two local organisations and has been pivotal in strengthening cooperation between Shenehom Housing Association and the Borough Council, promoting resident welfare and advocacy. She was nominated to the Board of Shenehom Housing Association by Richmond Borough Council and is also a nominated trustee of The Barnes Fund, further underlining her long‑standing commitment to community leadership and public service.

Alongside her professional and civic roles, Marjie is a qualified Pilates teacher and specialist Back4Good practitioner, a regular runner and a keen horse rider. She was also instrumental in setting up a community couch to 5k group in Barnes encouraging exercise, wellbeing and a wonderful bonding community spirit.  She is the mother of two daughters and a very recent grandmother to one.
