Bus changes announced

Following the closure of Hammersmith Bridge, TFL today announced changes to several local bus routes. They are:

Route 33 (Day & night service)

Route 33 - Day Service (approx. 05:00-01:00)

Route 33 starts and finishes in Castelnau ('Lonsdale Road' bus stops), close to the south side of Hammersmith Bridge, no longer serving Hammersmith Bridge Road or Hammersmith bus station.

It continues to run as previously between Fulwell and Castelnau.

There is no change to frequency.

Alternative routes

Customers to/from Hammersmith Bridge Road or Hammersmith bus station can either walk across Hammersmith Bridge and use route 72 north of the bridge, or use alternative buses as described below.

Route 533 provides alternative buses between Castelnau and Hammersmith bus station, via Chiswick Bridge.

Route 265 provides alternative buses between Barnes station and Putney Bridge station, connecting with route 33 at Barnes station. Route 220 provides connecting buses between Putney Bridge and Hammersmith bus station.

Route 337 provides alternative buses between Richmond, Sheen Road, Upper Richmond Road West and East Putney station.

Route 33 - Night Service (approx. 01:00-05:00)

At night, route 33 is renumbered N33.

It continues to run between Fulwell and Hammersmith but is rerouted between Barnes Station and Hammersmith bus station along Lower Richmond Road, Putney Bridge and Fulham Palace Road, no longer serving Rocks Lane (northern section), Castelnau or Hammersmith Bridge Road.

There is no change to frequency.

Alternative routes

Route N22 provides alternative night buses along Rocks Lane (northern section), but there are no alternative night buses along Castelnau or Hammersmith Bridge Road.

Route 72 (Day & night service)

Route 72 - Day Service (approx.05:00-01:00)

Route 72 starts and finishes at Hammersmith Bridge (north side bus stop), north of the river, no longer serving Castelnau, Rocks Lane, Barnes station or Roehampton. It runs along Hammersmith Bridge Road (westbound), Bridge View (southbound) and Hammersmith Bridge Road (northbound and eastbound) to get as close as possible to the bridge.

It continues to run between Hammersmith bus station and East Acton. This replaces the temporary arrangement with route 72 buses not running between Shepherd’s Bush and East Acton.

There is no change to frequency.

Alternative routes

Route 33 provides alternative buses along Rocks Lane and Castelnau to and from Castelnau (‘Lonsdale Road’ bus stops), close to the south side of Hammersmith Bridge. Customers to/from Hammersmith Bridge Road or Hammersmith bus station can walk across Hammersmith Bridge and use route 72 north of the bridge.

Route 533 provides alternative buses between Castelnau and Hammersmith bus station, via Chiswick Bridge.

Route 265 provides alternative buses between Bessborough Road, Alton Road, Roehampton Lane, Rocks Lane (southern section), and Putney Bridge station connecting with route 33 at Barnes station. Route 220 provides connecting buses between Putney Bridge and Hammersmith bus station.

Route 72- Night Service (approx. 01:00-05:00)

At night, route 72 is renumbered N72.

It continues to run between Roehampton and East Acton but is rerouted between Barnes station and Hammersmith bus station along Lower Richmond Road, Putney Bridge and Fulham Palace Road, no longer serving Rocks Lane (northern section), Castelnau or Hammersmith Bridge Road.

There is no change to frequency.

Alternative routes

Route N22 provides alternative night buses along Rocks Lane (northern section), but there are no alternative night buses along Castelnau or Hammersmith Bridge Road.

Route 209

Route 209 is rerouted to run between Mortlake and Putney Bridge, no longer serving Church Road, Castelnau, Hammersmith Bridge Road or Hammersmith bus station.

Between Barnes Pond and Putney Bridge it runs along Station Road, Mill Hill Road, Lower Richmond Road and Putney Bridge, starting and finishing at the bus stops in Putney Bridge Approach, close to Putney Bridge station.

It continues to run as previously between Mortlake and Barnes Pond.

There is no change to frequency.

We plan to reroute route 209 along Church Road and Rocks Lane (northern section), instead of Station Road, when changes to the junction of Rocks Lane and Mill Hill Road have been made.

Alternative routes

Route 419 provides alternative buses along Church Road and Castelnau to and from Castelnau (‘Lonsdale Road’ bus stops), close to the south side of Hammersmith Bridge. Customers to/from Hammersmith Bridge Road or Hammersmith bus station can walk across Hammersmith Bridge and use route 72 north of the bridge.

Route 533 provides alternative buses between Mortlake High Street, Barnes Bridge station, Barnes Pond, Church Road, Castelnau and Hammersmith bus station via Chiswick Bridge.

Route 265

There is no change to the route of route 265.

Additional journeys run between Roehampton and Putney Bridge station. Buses between Roehampton and Putney Bridge station run every 6 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes (previously every 12 minutes) and every 7-8 minutes on Sunday daytime and each evening (previously every 15 minutes). There is no change to frequency between Tolworth and Roehampton.

Alternative routes

Route 220 provides connecting buses between Putney Bridge and Hammersmith bus station.

Route 419

Route 419 is rerouted to run between Richmond and Barnes Pond (via Castelnau), no longer serving Hammersmith Bridge Road or Hammersmith bus station.

Between Lonsdale Road (eastern end) and Barnes Pond it runs along Castelnau (serving the 'Lonsdale Road' bus stops, close to the south side of Hammersmith Bridge) and Church Road, starting and finishing at the 'Barnes Pond' bus stops in Church Road.

It continues to run as previously between Richmond and Lonsdale Road (eastern end), except towards Barnes Pond it runs along Verdun Road (northern end) and Lonsdale Road, no longer serving Howsman Road and Kilmington Road in this direction.

There is no change to frequency.

Route 533 provides alternative buses between Lower Richmond Road (eastern section), Mortlake High Street, Barnes Bridge station, Lonsdale Road and Hammersmith bus station via Chiswick Bridge.

Route 190 provides alternative buses between Richmond, Lower Mortlake Road, Lower Richmond Road (western section) and Hammersmith bus station via Chiswick Bridge.

Route 391 provides alternative buses between Richmond, Lower Mortlake Road and Hammersmith bus station via Kew Bridge.

Route 485

Route 485 starts and finishes in Castelnau ('Lonsdale Road' bus stops), close to the south side of Hammersmith Bridge, no longer serving Hammersmith Bridge Road or Hammersmith bus station.

It continues to run as previously between Wandsworth and Castelnau, except bus stop R in Ram Street is no longer served.

There is no change to frequency.

Route 220 provides alternative buses between Wandsworth town centre, Putney Bridge Road and Hammersmith bus station via Putney Bridge.

Route 209 provides alternative buses between Barnes Pond, Station Road, Lower Richmond Road and Putney Bridge. Route 265 provides alternative buses between Lower Richmond Road and Putney Bridge station. Route 220 provides connecting buses between Putney Bridge and Hammersmith bus station.

Route 533 provides alternative buses between Castelnau, Church Road, Barnes Pond and Hammersmith bus station, via Chiswick Bridge.

Route 533

Route 533 is a new route between Hammersmith bus station, Mortlake and Barnes.

It runs along Hammersmith Bridge Road, Great West Road, the A316, Chiswick Bridge, Lower Richmond Road, Mortlake High Street (Barnes Bridge station), Lonsdale Road (eastbound only), Castelnau (southbound only), Church Road (Barnes Pond) (westbound only) and Barnes High Street (westbound only).

It runs every 30 minutes daily between approximately 05:00 and approximately 01:00.

Route 609

Route 609 (school days only) no longer runs.

Alternative routes

Route 533 provides alternative buses between Hammersmith bus station, Hammersmith Bridge Road and Harrodian School, via Chiswick Bridge, or students can walk across Hammersmith Bridge, using route 72 north of the bridge and route 419 (to/from Suffolk Road) south of the bridge
