Changes to 419 hail and ride
In 2023, TfL consulted on replacing the 419's hail-and-ride section on Lonsdale Road with fixed bus stops, prompting mixed reactions from residents. More than three years later, Richmond Council has launched a consultation on the location of the stops, giving the community its first opportunity to comment on the detailed of the proposals.
Under the plans, the 419 will no longer operate as hail-and-ride along most of Lonsdale Road, (although the service will continue between St Paul's School and Verdun Road,) and onwards through Verdun and Suffolk Roads will remain hail-and-ride.
The proposed stop near Walnut Tree Close has been welcomed, particularly as it will include a new pedestrian crossing. However, the planned stop outside St Paul's School has raised concerns among some residents and parents, who fear it could reduce visibility at the nearby crossing and affect the existing crossing safety markings.

The Barnes Community Association and the Travel Barnes Ponder Group have discussed these concerns with Richmond Council, while also pressing for a stop closer to Hammersmith Bridge to improve access for less mobile passengers.
The consultation will help determine whether the final design strikes the right balance between improved bus services and road safety
