Bird Flu - Advice

Residents are advised that avian influenza (bird flu) has been detected in the local area. While the risk to the public remains very low, we are asking everyone to take sensible precautions when spending time outdoors, particularly around the Green, the pond and the riverside.

Please follow this guidance:

  • Keep to footpaths and keep dogs on leads at all times.

  • Do not feed wild waterfowl.

  • Do not pick up or touch dead or sick wild birds.

  • Do not touch wild bird feathers or surfaces contaminated with wild bird droppings.

These simple steps will help reduce the risk of spreading the virus and protect both wildlife and pets.

If you find any dead wild birds, please report them online to DEFRA via the official government website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/report-dead-wild-birds
