Environmental Clean‑Up on Thames Foreshore

From 6 August - 28 August, the Port of London Authority (PLA), supported by Thames Water, will carry out clean-up works to remove the notorious “wet wipe island” on the foreshore adjacent to St Paul’s School. This is part of the broader PLA Clean Thames Plan, aimed at restoring a cleaner, healthier River Thames.

The project addresses a long-standing pollution issue and builds upon years of dedication from local volunteers working with Thames21, helping raise awareness and drive action. An independent ecological assessment confirms that removing this debris will benefit the river ecosystem, while minimal tree trimming may be required to ensure safe access.

The towpath may be temporarily closed during the clear up; stewards will be onsite to help and maintain access where possible
