Celebrating 50 years of BCA Barnes Fair!

What an incredible day we had celebrating the 50th Barnes Fair! From the bustling stalls to the live music, the smell of BBQ and the gentle clack of reusable plastic cups toasting over Pimm’s, it was such a fun day, even under the blazing sun.

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make our 50th Fair such a success. Thank you to our brilliant volunteers, from the calm and collected traffic marshals to the hardworking teams on the Pimm’s and Book stalls, we couldn’t have done it without your support.

We’re also incredibly thankful to our sponsors who help make Barnes Fair the successful event that it has become.

BCA Barnes Food Fair

BCA Barnes Food Fair, kindly sponsored by Savills Barnes, returns to Barnes Green on Saturday 13 September, 10am–5pm, with over 100 food and drink stalls, free tastings and demos on our events stage in the marquee and live music. Early bird discounted tickets are now available, plus there are further discounts for BCA members. Buy your tickets now.

We are sorry that we cannot host your dogs at the Food Fair, for health and safety reasons.

Proceeds support Barnes Community Association and Barnes Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust network.

Barnes Green Receives Green Flag Award

We are absolutely thrilled that Barnes Green has received a Green Flag Award for the first time, recognised for its historic charm, mature trees and tranquil pond, forming a vital green link to Barnes Common. This is part of Richmond upon Thames’ record-breaking total of 24 awards celebrating the best-managed green spaces in the country. Hats off to our amazing Greenkeeper, Russell, and his dedicated team of volunteers for this well-deserved recognition, a true reflection of their hard work and love for our local environment.

Autumn Market at Holy Trinity Church

Our second collectables market of the year will take place at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday 27 September, 10am-3pm at 162 Castelnau, SW13 9ET.

Stalls will feature antiques, vintage items, and unique handmade goods from local artisans and collectors.

Our 50th Anniversary Prize Draw is now closed and all winners have been contacted. We’re so grateful to the many local businesses who generously donated prizes in support of BCA. Volunteer Needed for the White Hart Lane Christmas Event

Do you love Christmas? BCA is looking for an organised volunteer to lead a team of helpers to deliver our much-loved White Hart Lane Christmas event. This popular event in the BCA Christmas festival calendar sees White Hart Lane transformed into a bustling festive attraction with a grotto, stalls, activities for kids, music and festive fare. 

We have a small team who do much of the work but need someone to get us organised! Please contact emma@barnes-ca.org if you would be interested in finding out more.

Support BCA Doing Something You Love

At this year’s Barnes Fair, a group of local residents came together to run a BBQ stall, raising money for the BCA. We were thrilled with this generous offer, and it was a brilliant example of community collaboration in action. If you’d like to support the BCA, a registered charity, by doing something you love, we’d love to hear from you. Whether it’s running a marathon or charity run, hosting a bake sale, or coming up with your own fundraising idea, every bit of support helps us do more for Barnes.

Penny Poppins Nursery to open at Rose House

Penny Poppins Nursery, a small independent and Ofsted-registered nursery is set to open at Rose House in September 2025. Building on 1.5 years of successful Drop & Play sessions at Rose House, Penny Poppins Nursery will offer morning sessions, Monday - Friday, for children aged 20 months to 4 years old.

The Mortlake Mash-Up

Back in March, over 250 residents from Mortlake, East Sheen and Barnes came together to create a vision for the future of Mortlake at the Mortlake Mash-Up – a Ponder for Mortlake. At the start of July, residents came back to hear what the new vision looks like and how they can get involved in making it happen.  The ideas are wide-ranging and inspirational, from suggestions for improving safety on the streets of Mortlake and improving the shopping parade to creating a focal point in Mortlake Green and opening up views of the river. The popular Barnes Charity Bike Sale returns to St. Mary’s Church on the same day as the BCA Food Fair, Saturday 13 September, 9.30am - 12pm. Donate a bike or let the team sell it on your behalf by dropping it off at one of the collection dates:

Orange Pekoe Pop-Up

Orange Pekoe is getting a makeover this August, but you won’t have to go without your coffee. During renovations, they will be popping up at flower shop, Maison Maioli, from 5 August. While there’s no table service, you can still enjoy your coffee al fresco or take it to go.

Barnes Bookfest

Award-winning author William Boyd and broadcaster Mishal Husain are among the headline speakers confirmed for Barnes BookFest, 26–28 September.

Boyd will discuss his new spy novel The Predicament with Harriett Gilbert, while Husain will explore her family memoir Broken Threads in conversation with Maria Sturdy-Morton. They join a stellar line-up including Michael Morpurgo, Gyles Brandreth, Trevor McDonald, Hallie Rubenhold, and more.

Planned engineering works on Barnes Bridge in August

The railway line between Kew Bridge and Barnes will be closed from 23-31 August for vital strengthening works on Barnes Bridge, including replacing key girders and installing longer-lasting, eco-friendly support blocks. During this time, buses will replace trains, and passengers should plan ahead, especially football fans attending the Brentford vs Aston Villa match. Chiswick station’s footbridge will also be closed from 2 August -15 September for refurbishment.
