Suffolk Road Rec

Friends of Suffolk Road recreation ground

The Friends of Suffolk Road recreation ground is a sub-group of the BCA but is independent and run by its own committee (a BCA Trustee sat on this group). The Friends group was established to oversee a project of improvements to Suffolk Road recreation ground including a playground, a dog-free area, new plantings and benches.

The Friends aim is to make this under-used recreation ground an attractive hub for the local community. They worked with the Council over the last few years to plan improvements to the site. The Friends fundraised for an exciting new playground at the rec. Thanks to very generous donations from local schools and residents, enough was raised for the build and the playground is now open for children to enjoy! The new playground is part of a wider dog free area so that families can enjoy the green space without worrying about dogs. The dog walkers have their own space to enjoy with their pets.

With phase one of the project complete, the Friends are turning their attention to phase two which includes plantings and a sensory garden. They will be pulling plans together and starting a new fundraising campaign. Keep an eye on this page for updates on their progress.
