BCA – Strengthening the Community
Our remit is to advance education and to provide facilities for recreation and leisure-time occupations, in the interests of social welfare in the community.
At our Rose House HQ volunteers extend a warm welcome to all visitors, offering advice and leaflets. Every day Rose House hosts a range of community activities, including language classes, talks on history, art and literature and keep-fit and bridge.
We maintain close relations with other voluntary organisations in Barnes, such as: Barn Elms Sports Trust (BEST), Friends of Barnes Common (FOBC), Castelnau Youth Centre, Barnes Green Centre and the OSO Arts Centre.
All of our fundraising events (Barnes Fair, Barnes Food Fair, etc.) aim to be fun, provide an opportunity for residents to get to know each other and to bring together the community in a common effort to raise funds for the benefit of all.
We raise funds jointly with the Friends of St Mary’s, St Mary Barnes Scouts and the three primary schools.
We support more than twenty-five voluntary organisations with stalls at Barnes Fair at a concessionary rate in order that they can raise funds for themselves. We advertise the events and activities of many of these organisations in Prospect.
The BCA’s annual Societies & Volunteers Open Day acts as a ‘one-stop shop’ for local clubs and associations to interact and recruit new members and volunteers.
We fund and organise a Christmas day lunch at the Barnes Green Centre for those unable to enjoy a traditional family celebration.
As funding allows we support local events and we administer grants from the Porter’s Trust.
All our fundraising events aim to bring the community together in a common effort for the benefit of all.
